DRC: "We need USD 30 billion to develop the electric battery project" (Julien Paluku)

On the sidelines of the 78th UN General Assembly in New York, in which the DRC is taking part, the results of the pre-feasibility study for the installation of the first manufacturing plant for electric battery precursors, batteries and electric vehicles in the province of Haut-Katanga in the Democratic Republic of Congo, carried out by the company "ARISE", were made public. The announcement was made on the occasion of the economic forum "The Global Africa Business Initiative".

"It's a great day for the DRC, because it's been two years since Félix Tshisekedi convened the business forum in Kinshasa around this great machine of the battery industry in Africa", launched the Congolese Minister of Industry. Julien Paluku Kahongya revealed that 30 billion US dollars would be needed to bring this project to fruition, in front of captains of industry from all over the world.

"We need US $30 billion to develop this vast project to capture more than US $7 trillion by 2035," he said, urging them to join the DRC and Zambia in developing this regional value chain.

This major business meeting was also attended by several members of the Congolese government, notably the Minister of State, Minister of Planning and Minister of Human Rights, the Governor of Haut-Katanga, the Fédération des Entreprises du Congo and financial partners, as well as the team from the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) headed by its interim Executive Secretary, who has been supporting this major project since its inception.
